Ceri’s Celestial Candies
Project Brief
Ceri’s Celestial Candies, or C3 as you may see it referred to for the purpose of this portfolio entry, was the result of one of two senior capstone classes. During this class, we spent the whole semester developing one brand and business.
Ceri’s Celestial Candies is a candy brand by tabletop gamers for tabletop gamers. With the goal of further enhancing your tabletop game experience, C3 crafts candy inspired by different spells and items found in these games, such as fireballs, black tentacles, and troll farts.
Inspirations
Inspiration came from two places: the books that serve as the rulebooks for these games, and 80s Wizard Vans.
Logo Process
While a lot of the brand’s identity (color and type-wise) was already falling into place (as you may be able to see in the background of the slides and typography on them), a solid mark and signature for the logo were needed. I played with logos in a few different trains of thought, and I was able to narrow it down to three. Spoiler alert, I ended up going with the witch with the floating candies.
Packaging and Dielines
The next part of the project, since we were ideally selling physical products, was figuring out what they would look like. I chose to mock up both the packaging for the candies and the bag you could carry them out of a physical store in, since we were encouraged to imagine our brand as a physical storefront.
Then, after mocking up the items, we were directed to make a dieline for them. You can view both the dielines and mockups for the bag and candy packages, and see the candies “in-store” below.
Advertisements
I also made a couple advertisements as part of this project’s process. While the parameters of the project only required posters, I wanted to make them transferrable to social media advertising as well. As it would turn out, one of the concepts worked better with the social media concept, and the other worked much better as a poster.
The first concept relies on the idea that TTRPGS are played on a physical tabletop. Post-COVID, that is only sometimes the case; it still was when I made this advertisement. When playing together, someone has to bring snacks. The easiest person to target with that is the DM. DM stands for Dungeon Master, and would be instantly recognizable as TTRPG jargon to our target audience.
The second concept also rests on TTRPG knowledge. In specifically Pathfinder and Dungeons and Dragons, there is a red-skinned, sharp-toothed, horned, demonic-looking race of humanoids called tieflings. Funnily enough, the first part of that – “tief”- sounds awfully like “teeth”. And, with a candy brand.. the joke writes itself.

Later Revisions
I revamped the packaging, made sure it had a version for each candy, and created a new advertisement.
